Compal Network, a Taiwan-funded enterprise located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, is one of the world's largest network communications manufacturers. Its downstream customers are telecom operators in Europe, America, Asia-Pacific and other regions. The person in charge said that since the epidemic, the company's turnover has increased almost month by month, and the company has recently expanded its production lines. However, the current supply of upstream raw materials such as chips is tight, which has restricted shipments.

The person in charge took the reporter to the company's warehouse, where various raw material chips are placed. The person in charge said,The company's monthly production uses about 2.3 million chips. Currently, the inventory is seriously insufficient and can only meet the company's production needs for one week.

Usually, the main raw materials of a router include chips, copper, plastic, etc., of which chips account for about half and are the largest cost component. The reporter visited a number of local network communication product manufacturing companies in Kunshan and learned that the recent rise in raw material prices has compressed the profit margins of the companies.

Kunshan Customs told reporters that local electronic product companies have gathered together and have a huge demand for chips. The shortage of chips began to appear in the second quarter of last year. Whether in the fields of automobiles, consumer electronics, or network communications, the supply of chips is generally tight. Chip imports present new characteristics of small batches and large batches.

Yang Fangming, Commissioner of Kunshan Customs affiliated to Nanjing Customs: A centralized inspection center has been set up to inspect chips and other raw materials that are in short supply at any time, and to quickly inspect and release them, increasing efficiency three times as much as before.In the first quarter of this year, Kunshan imported chips worth 17.9 billion yuan, an increase of 20%.
