2. Disassembly of ANKER PowerPort Atom 3 Slim 4-port GaN desktop charger

The fuselage shell is disassembled along the assembly seam on the side, and there are two buckles on both sides for fixation. In addition, ultrasonic welding process is used on the edges to make the fuselage shell package very strong. There are screws on the four corners of the green PCB board.

Remove the screws and take out the PCB board.

The transformers and capacitors on the PCB are injected with glue for fixation and heat conduction, and a black thermal pad is attached to the transformer. Transformers, common mode inductors, primary electrolytic capacitors, PWM power supply capacitors, solid capacitors and other components are all welded in two pairs. From this situation, we can know that the PCB board is divided into two circuits, which are independent of each other and do not interfere with each other.

Let’s first introduce to you the components of the USB-C output interface:

The "8"-shaped general input interface has specifications of 7A 125V~2.5A 250V.

Time delay fuse, specification is 3.15A 250V.

Common mode inductors are wound with multi-layer insulated wire to filter out EMI interference.

Safety X capacitor, specification is 0.1μF, from Dongguan Chengxi Electronics Co., Ltd. There are also products using this capacitorBeijing made 30W 1A1C fast charging charger

Now that we have looked at the components of the USB-C output interface, we will continue to introduce to you the components of the three USB-A interfaces:

The other black time delay fuse has a specification of 2A 250V.

Common mode inductors have the same design and workmanship and are used to filter out EMI interference.

Two AiSHi primary filter electrolytic capacitors are both 400V 15μF. Two chips work in parallel, totaling 30μF.

Another output filter solid capacitor has the same specification of 1000μF 7.5V, two of them are connected in parallel.

There is a small PCB board behind the transformer with LED indicators welded on it for power indication.

A close-up of the USB-A interface, with dust-proof tape on the casing to prevent dust from entering the charger.

Now that we have understood the two circuits of the PCB board, let’s look at the back of the PCB board.

From the welding situation on the back of the PCB board, we can know that the back is also divided into two ways of welding, and the input interface, transformer and three USB-A interfaces are all sunken plate welding, which can reduce the thickness of the charger.

The middle part is hollowed out to place two transformers, and the chip is welded to the edge of the PCB board. Let’s first look at the AC-DC part of the USB-C interface on the left.

The main control chip model is SC1933C. This chip has built-in GaN power devices and belongs to PI's PowiGaN series. It is also the first GaN power product launched by PI. Thanks to the advantages of high frequency and low loss of gallium nitride power devices, the power density of the charger can be increased, the size and weight can be reduced, and it is easier to carry.

PI SC1933C can provide accurate constant voltage/constant current/constant power without external components, and can easily work with external fast charging protocol interface IC, so it is suitable for high-efficiency flyback design. Charging Head Network learned that the chip has been previouslyRAVPower 61W GaN USB PD ChargerANKER 30W GaN gallium nitride chargerandANKER 60W gallium nitride dual USB-C port chargeruse.

The two chips are screen-printed SS515LB and QN0102 respectively. Schottky diodes are connected in parallel with synchronous rectification MOS to improve light load efficiency.

Let’s take a look at the AC-DC part of the USB-A interface on the right.

On the right side is the secondary synchronous rectification MOS of the three USB-A interfaces, model AO62604, from Bandai AOS in the United States.

The silk screen "PS10100L1" Schottky diode on the side is connected in parallel with the synchronous rectifier to improve light load efficiency.

The output overcurrent protection switch of the three USB-A interfaces also has automatic identification function.

Now that everything has been dismantled, let’s take a family photo.

Summary of disassembly of charging head network

ANKER's 3A1C 4-port gallium nitride desktop charger is made of PC flame-retardant material casing. The top surface is sun-textured to increase the beauty. The four corners and edges are curved transitions. The entire charger is very compact and can save a lot of space on the desktop. The maximum output of the USB-A interface is 12W, and the total output reaches 20W. The circuit where the USB-C interface is located uses GaN gallium nitride components, and the output power reaches 45W. In addition, the USB-C interface supports Apple 2.4A and USB-DCP protocols, as well as QC2.0 and QC3.0 fast charging protocols. The compatibility is also good and can meet the fast charging needs of most electronic products.

Through disassembly, the charging head network found that the USB-C interface circuit uses PI's SC1933C as the main control chip, which has a built-in GaN power device, and also uses Cypress's CYPD3175 as the secondary protocol IC. The USB-A circuit uses PI's INN3265C as the main control chip. The chip has a built-in controller, switch tube and secondary synchronous rectification controller, which is highly integrated. The two circuits inside the charger work independently and do not affect each other, so even if four ports are output at the same time, there is no need to worry about the total power drop, and each port has an overcurrent protection function. The output also uses solid capacitor filtering to reduce ripple and make the output more stable.
