According to news on March 11, Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Devices Co., Ltd. will build a 300mm wafer manufacturing plant through Japan’s Kaga Toshiba Electronics Corporation to expand the production capacity of power devices. Volume production of the new production line will begin in the first half of fiscal year 2023.  
Currently, Toshiba has met demand by expanding the production capacity of Kaga Toshiba Electronics Corporation's 200mm wafer fab. The company will build the new 300mm factory at the same location as its current 200mm production line. The new 300mm production line will be used to manufacture low-voltage metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) and insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs).  
  650V super junction power MOSFET
Toshiba today announced the launch of a 650V super-junction power MOSFET in its TOLL (TO-leadless) packaged DTMOSVI series.  
TOLL packaging combined with the latest [4] DTMOSVI process technology expands the product lineup to cover low on-resistance as low as 65mΩ (maximum) [5]. Toshiba will continue to use the TOLL packaging process to improve its products to reduce device size and improve efficiency.  
  Global "5G Status" Survey Results

Overall, operators are optimistic: more than half of respondents expect 5G to bring considerable competitive advantages to end users within 2 to 5 years, while 47% said users are seeing or will see the value of 5G within 1 year. Gallium nitride power transistor prices drop
GaN Systems, the world leader in GaN (gallium nitride) power transistors, recently announced that the price of its low-current, high-volume gallium nitride transistors has dropped below $1. These transistors are commonly used in gallium nitride chargers and AC adapters in smartphones and laptops, as well as in a variety of consumer and industrial applications. GaN Systems expects gallium nitride transistor prices to further decrease as production ramps up from its many customers in the global consumer, enterprise and industrial markets.  
Market demand for gallium nitride power semiconductors has been growing. According to forecasts from Grand View Research, the global gallium nitride semiconductor device market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 19.8% from US$1.65 billion (market size value) in 2020 to reach US$5.85 billion in 2027. GaN Systems has been experiencing this kind of growth, and it recently announced that it has reached 20 million gallium nitride transistor shipments and will achieve a 40-fold capacity expansion in 2021.  
  2020 Global Electric Vehicle Sales Ranking
Recently, the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) released data showing that global electric vehicle sales in 2020 totaled 2,943,172 units, a year-on-year increase of 44.6%.  
Specifically, 2.02 million pure electric vehicles (BEV) were sold, 900,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) were sold, and 8,200 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEV) were sold, representing year-on-year increases of 34.7%, 73.6%, and 9.3% respectively. The share of electric vehicles in the new car market increased from 2.2% in 2019 to 3.6% in 2020.  
By brand, Tesla sold 442,000 vehicles, ranking first in sales for two consecutive years. Volkswagen Group ranked second with sales of 381,000 vehicles. General Motors Group, which ranked third, consolidated sales through the "Hongguang and MINI" models launched jointly with Chinese car company Wuling, selling 222,000 vehicles. Hyundai Motor Group jumped to fourth place with sales of 198,000 vehicles.  
The analysis pointed out that the development of the electric vehicle market in Europe and China has driven the growth of global electric vehicle sales. Last year, the European electric vehicle market reached 1.29 million units, a year-on-year increase of 133.5%; the Chinese market reached 1.2 million units, making it the country with the highest sales of electric vehicles.
