Intel 5nm process exposed: almost as good as IBM 2nm

As the core of the semiconductor industry, chip manufacturing is the most critical and difficult. After entering the 10nm node, the world's three companies, TSMC, Intel, and Samsung, have chosen to continue playing. On the surface, Intel's progress is the slowest, but the process "moisture" of the other two companies is not small. Samsung's 3nm process density is similar to Intel's 7nm.  
Digitimes recently published a research report analyzing the semiconductor process density issues of Samsung, TSMC, Intel and IBM, comparing the situations of 10nm, 7nm, 5nm, 3nm and 2nm.  
   
At the 10nm node, Samsung’s transistor density is only 052 million/mm2, TSMC’s is 053 million/mm2, and Intel has reached 106 million/mm2, which is about twice as high.  
For the 7nm node, Samsung’s process density is 095 million/mm2, TSMC’s is 097 million/mm2, and Intel’s 7nm is 180 million/mm2, which is still more than 80% higher.  
On the subsequent 5nm node, Samsung achieved a density of 127 million/mm2, TSMC reached a density of 173 million/mm2, and Intel's goal was 300 million/mm2. The gap between Samsung and the other two has become wider.  
By the 3nm node, TSMC’s transistor density is about 290 million/mm2, Samsung’s is only 170 million/mm2, and Intel’s target is 520 million/mm2.  
There is not much data on the 2nm node. The 2nm process density released by IBM in conjunction with Samsung and other companies is about 333 million/mm2, and TSMC’s target is 490 million/mm2.  
In fact, the above data cannot 100% reflect the technical level of each company, and the differences in performance, power consumption, and cost must also be taken into consideration. However, judging from the density of Moore's Law, Intel basically follows the previous specifications in this regard. Samsung and TSMC's process promotion water injection is not news.  
 

Of course, Samsung may be more exaggerated in this regard. The density of 3nm nodes is only Intel's 7nm level, and Intel's 5nm process is close to IBM's 2nm level. I don't know if this should be said that Intel is too honest or that other companies are too slick.
